Hobonichi 2024 A6 Planner Cover [Tomitaro Makino: Koshinso]

£27.75 £37.00

This is a simply designed techo cover printed with a botanical illustration of 'Koshinso' by botanist Dr. Tomitaro Makino in 1901. Koshinso, painted in sumi ink and watercolour, is a perennial insectivorous plant that grows on wet rocks of the mountains in the north of the Kanto region. It was given its Japanese name after being discovered in Mt. Koshin in Tochigi Prefecture.

The botanical illustration drawn over 120 years ago on June 30, 1901, delicately depicts the light purple flowers arranged horizontally and the stems that grow out from the flowers and warp back. Unusually for Dr. Makino's botanical illustrations, the background is painted in black.

For the Hobonichi techo cover, a lovely blooming Koshinso flower is precisely printed on an ecru coloured cotton fabric.

Each of the two thin bookmarks is in a different colour, one in light purple and the other in light green inspired by the Koshinso flower and stem. The tips are cut diagonally.

Peek inside the outer back pocket and you will find a hidden message, “There isn’t any grass without a name. ―Tomitaro Makino.” This is an English translation of the words of Dr. Makino, showing how plant loving he was.

There are no interior pockets for this cover, to make the techo even more compact. It has a pen hook designed to hold a pen by its clip.

Written at the bottom of the cover interior is Pinguicula ramosa, the scientific name for Koshinso.

We also have a Hobonichi Pencil Board fitted for the Original size designed with a botanical illustration drawn by Dr. Tomitaro Makino. This is an A6 size pencil board with botanical illustrations of a Kanto dandelion and Japanese thistle printed on it.

We hope you write down many of the joys you find in your daily life just like Dr. Makino, who loved, carefully observed, and drew a vast number of illustrations for plants.

Changes in 2024

The A6 planner cover is no longer sold as a set to include the planner. From 2024, you will now have the option of buying a planner to fit your cover of choice, separately. The A6 cover fits the 'planner' and the 'orginal'. Please see our range of Hobonichi planners, here.

Specifics of the A6 Cover

  1. Butterfly-stopper
This is the name for the pen holders that are on either side of the cover. By closing the techo cover and putting a pen through both pen holders, it acts as a hinge and holds the cover shut, preventing the pages from crumpling.

  2. Various pockets
The Hobonichi Techo cover comes with lots of pockets both on the inside and outside. There are various shapes and sizes, from those in which you can store small cards to those that can fit larger postcards.

  3. Two bookmarks
The covers come with two bookmarks with triangular and rectangular charms on the ends (the shape of the charms may differ depending on the cover). It’s useful to use each bookmark to mark different pages, for example using one for the monthly calendar and one for the daily pages.
