Description

The Blackwing Volume 2 pencil leads something of a double life. In daylight it is a composed black pencil traced with fine cracks; turn the lights out and every one of those cracks glows a vivid electric blue. Blackwing made it as a tribute to the art of the early 1970s, when films and records took a darker turn and, in doing so, helped people make sense of a troubled world. There are twelve to a box, each with an especially firm graphite made for this edition alone.

That firm core is the part you notice first. It holds a sharp point for a long while and lays down a clean, crisp line that doesn't smear across the facing page. The barrel is smooth and cool under the fingers, and the pencil sits light and balanced in the hand. What looks like damage is, on closer inspection, the whole point.

Why You'll Love It

  • A Point That Lasts: You sharpen far less often than you expect, and the line stays fine and precise from the first page of notes to the last.
  • Cleaner Pages: Your notebook always stays crisp, because the graphite never smudges when you close the cover or rest your hand on what you've just written.
  • A Small Evening Surprise: You leave one on the desk, switch off the lamp and find it glowing quietly back at you, which never quite stops being a pleasure.
