Description

The Akiko Miyakoshi Hobonichi Landscape Notebook (I Dream of a Journey) is a B6-size, landscape-oriented graph paper notebook created in collaboration with picture book author Akiko Miyakoshi.

The cover illustration is a scene from Miyakoshi’s picture book “I Dream of a Journey,” created using the printmaking technique of lithography. In the story, the protagonist travels in a dream, flying by aeroplane from one unknown town to the next. The cover has a smooth, matte finish, and the words “Unforgettable Moments.” foil-pressed in iridescent aurora colours catch the light beautifully and add a delightful touch.

The back cover features the dawn sky as seen from above the clouds, an illustration used in the endpapers of the picture book. “When you’re on an international flight,” Miyakoshi shares, “the sun sets or rises at unexpected times. I love the drama of light streaming in horizontally through the cabin windows.”

Inside, the pages are ruled in a soft yellow-ochre 3.7 mm grid — subtle enough not to interfere whether you’re writing or sketching, offering just a quiet guide. The paper is thin yet durable Tomoe River, and the notebook opens flat to 180 degrees.

This is the first B6-size addition to the Hobonichi Graph Notebook series. It’s slightly larger than the A6 Original techo but more compact than the A5 Cousin. It’s a perfect everyday notebook, and equally at home on your travels: easy to pull out at an airport, on a plane, or in a café to jot down notes or sketch a quick scene. We hope you fill it with the stories of your own journeys.

The Akiko Miyakoshi series also includes techo covers, a Weeks and pencil boards, and they are a quiet pleasure to use together as a set.

Akiko Miyakoshi is a children’s book author, born in Saitama Prefecture in 1982 and now living in a town at the base of the mountains in Nagano while creating new works. She debuted in 2009 with The Storm, has won several awards in Japan and internationally for The Tea Party in the Woods, The Way Home in the Night and Little Shrew, and her other books include I Dream of a Journey, The Piano Recital and Tom and Momo. Her works are currently published in over 15 languages, and she also contributes illustrations to magazines and other publications.

Tools for Big Thinking

  • Built for wide thinking: The landscape B6 format gives your hand a long, uninterrupted run across the page, which suits timelines, sketches and all the lists that refuse to stay short.
  • Paper you will want to touch: Tomoe River is thin and silky under the nib, and the binding always opens flat at 180 degrees so the spread never fights you halfway through a sentence.
  • A grid that stays out of the way: The soft yellow-ochre 3.7 mm grid guides your writing and sketching without dominating it, so no ruled line ever shouts over your own.
