Kakimori

Kakimori works from Kuramae, one of Tokyo's old downtown craft districts, where small workshops still line the streets. It is best known for its inks: richly pigmented colours in droplet-shaped bottles, a shape inspired by the Japanese sound for a falling drop. Alongside them sit precisely made metal dip nibs and simple wooden nib holders.

This collection gathers Kakimori's inks, steel and brass nibs, nib holders and pen rests. A metal nib dipped in Kakimori ink makes a faint scratch on the paper, then lays down a line that shades from dark to light as the ink runs down. You never have to own a fountain pen to enjoy good ink; a nib and a bottle are enough. Once you have written this way, a slower pace starts to feel like part of the pleasure.
