The Kutsuwa K'Zool is an award-winning adjustable pencil sharpener which gives you control over the length of your sharpened pencil lead cores.

  • Prolong the life of your soft core pencils by reducing lead breakage
  • Sharpen your pencils to five different lengths
  • Easy operation thanks to the easy dial and indicator window
  • Easily eject broken pencil core pieces
  • Winner of the 2004 Japan Good Design Award
  • Available in a choice of colours
  • Made in Japan

This Kutsuwa K'Zool adjustable pencil sharpener allows you to adjust the length of the sharpened pencil lead (with five grades) - very useful for use with different types of pencils. For example, using the K'Zool with pencils with soft cores such as coloured pencils, you can create a shorter point which is less likely to break. You end up with a 'blunter' point, but the trade off is that you prolong the life of your softer core pencils. For a harder core such as HB lead, you can create a longer point. If you prefer a perfectly sharp (but shorter) core, we recommend you try the Kutsuwa T'Gaal sharpener.

To use, simply adjust the dial on the Kutsuwa K'Zool sharpener so that it matches your preferred grade. The indicator on the side will confirm your selection (1 line for the shortest point, 5 lines for the longer point). Then simply sharpen in the usual way. Shavings are contained inside, and can be emptied by opening the sliding hatch cover, while the eject button at the centre of the adjustment dial lets you easily eject any broken leads which would otherwise become jammed in the sharpener.

One question you might ask is what the difference is between the T'Gaal sharpener and the K'Zool sharpener. The fundamental difference between the T'Gaal and the K'Zool is the finished product. Adjusting the dial in the K'Zool moves a stopper forward and backward, so that on a shorter setting, the stopper does not allow a long point to be created. On the T'Gaal, adjusting the dial adjusts the sharpening angle, which controls the length of the point but still allows it to be sharpened fully.

Using the K'Zool's method on shorter settings, the point is somewhat blunt (see the product images for an illustration), while with the T'Gaal, the point is perfectly sharp and pointy every time; it's just the length of the point that differs. Different tools for different results; both have their place depending on what you need.

Measures H146 x W55 x D22mm. Weighs 18g. Made in Japan.
