By day it is a crisp, cheerful Perkeo: a white cap and section, an ocean-blue barrel and a scattering of bright turquoise stars. Give it a little daylight or a UV lamp, switch off the lamp, and the barrel, tip and printed stars glow softly in the dark. Kaweco are making around 3,100 of them for the whole world, which means you are unlikely to meet another by accident.

Underneath the theatrics, it is every inch a Perkeo. The octagonal cap and sixteen-sided barrel catch light and shadow at different angles, the triangular grip settles your fingers into a natural writing position without any thought on your part, and the pen is light enough that you soon forget you are holding it. Ink flows readily from the very first stroke, and when it finally runs dry, it takes widely available Euro-style rollerball refills.

Why You'll Love It

It charges itself wherever you work: A little daylight is all the glow ever needs, so you never have to remember to do anything.
