Space Pen

The Fisher Space Pen is a functional design classic - and a legendary pen too! Normal ballpoint pens will not work in space due to the weak gravity (have you tried using your ballpoint to do the crossword while laying down facing up?), so a solution was needed to enable astronauts to take notes in space. The original Space Pen cost an astronomical amount to develop (excuse the pun) and solved the problem neatly, using pressurised ink cartridges to ensure a consistent flow of ink to the tip.

The pressurised Fisher Space Pen ink cartridge is really the heart of the Space Pen's extraordinary writing abilities - it can write in the freezing cold, boiling heat, under water, over grease and even in the gravity free vacuum of space. If you have a Parker Jotter ballpoint, you can use the ink refills to get all the writing abilities of a Space Pen in your Parker!

Nowadays, the Space Pen is used less in space and more here on earth, although it is still an essential item on all manned space flights, both American and Russian. The Space Pen has also changed a bit since its inception - there are now a range of colours and finishes to choose from, as well as a wide range of ink colours.

Probably our best selling Space Pen refill, the SPR4 is black ink refill with a medium tip. It is exactly the same refill that comes with new Space Pens, so if you're happy with the width of your Space Pen's writing line as it is now, then the medium point is for you.

This refill will fit all Space Pens from the 400, 600 and 800 series of pens (including the Bullet Space Pen), but not multi-action Space Pens.

The refill also comes with a free adaptor that enables use with Parker Jotter ballpoint pens.
